Role of the HPD Standard

As a third-party verifier, you play an important role in supporting the following key objectives of what the HPD Open Standard does.

The HPD Standard

The HPD Standard

Helps project teams prevent “regrettable substitutions” due to lack of information.

The HPD Standard

As discussed elsewhere in this training, It’s also important to be aware of what the HPD is not intended to do.

The HPD Standard

Does not provide information about entire product life cycle.

The HPD Standard

Does not provide an assessment or analysis of exposure or risk

The HPD Standard

Does not provide an assessment, label, or certification of level of performance

The HPD Standard

Does not assist in comparisons with products that do not have HPDs

The HPD’s report is for the product “as delivered to the job site”—a snapshot in time. There are life-cycle implications, but it is not a life-cycle-oriented report

The HPD focuses on objective data reporting for substances, with a focus on hazards, an inherent property of chemicals. Manufacturers may add context on exposure and risk in the notes (with citations).

The HPD report is intended to be used as a baseline data report for use by other certifications, programs, etc.
