The HPD Standard & Its Components

It’s the verifier’s job to ensure that products are reported correctly according to the HPD Open Standard. So, it’s important to understand what we mean by that.

When organizations complete an HPD they have completed a report that’s been developed according to the HPD Open Standard.

The HPD Open Standard is the voluntary technical specification that provides a consistent format and instructions for reporting information about a product’s contents and associated health and environmental hazards.

The HPD Open Standard consists of three overall components:

The Instructions – The core document of the HPD Open Standard. Provides step-by-step directions for how to report product contents and health information.

The Format – The required graphic reporting format. Shows all required data elements. –The Instructions indicate how to report everything required on the Format.

Best Practices – Guides published on the HPDC website that provide official rules on specialized topics such as Special Conditions for certain materials, and requirements for the LEED v4 pre-check.
