Section 1, Summary - HPD Overview
Section 1 contains instructions for the first page of the HPD Format:
General information about the product and manufacturer and the HPD itself that appears in the header and footer;
Summary information for the Content Inventory, Content in Descending Order of Quantity, Inventory and Screening Notes, VOC Content, Certifications and Compliance, LEED Pre-Check, any Special Conditions that apply, Third-Party Preparation and Verification, and Publication;

Listing Multiple Products/Models in an HPD
Secondary brand names must be listed in the Product Description if multiple brands are covered
A range, series, or category of products may be grouped together in a single HPD if all of the following apply:
- The products are functionally similar
- All of the information provided in the HPD Format Section 3: Certifications and Compliance applies to all products included
- Each of the products has identical content OR the content differences between the products account for 10% or less of the total mass of each product (with the exception included in the HPD Open Standard—see Section 3 for those details)
- All contents present in any of the products at or above the selected threshold(s) must be included in the Content Inventory
- All variances between the grouped products must be explained in the Other Material or Product Notes and/or Substance Notes, if possible, or in the HPD Format Section 5: General Notes

Inventory and Threshold Reporting Formats
The way information is reported on an HPD, may vary depending on the type of Inventory Reporting Method. Please check the details for each of these methods:
Basic Inventory with Product-level threshold:
- Substances are listed from highest to lowest percentage by weight in the product
- A single threshold is indicated for the entire product and all substances that are above the product threshold are reported.
- No material level information is provided.
Nested Materials Inventory with Material-level threshold:
- Materials are listed from highest to lowest percentage by weight in the product and substances are listed from highest to lowest percentage by weight in the material
- Thresholds are established for each listed material.
- Thresholds may vary depending on material supplier knowledge and willingness to share information
- Substances within each material are reported if they are above the established threshold for the material.
Nested Materials Inventory with Product-level threshold:
- Materials are listed from highest to lowest percentage by weight in the product and substances are listed from highest to lowest percentage by weight in the material
- A single threshold is established for the entire product.
- Substances within each material are reported if they are above the product threshold.
