To complete an HPD data request using the Supplier HPD Builder Extension tool, you need to first gather the data that the manufacturers need.

You need to provide information about their product, about the materials that make up their product, and about the substances that are present in your product as delivered to the manufacturer. 

Supplier’s products are considered Parts (components) of the manufacturer’s product. Data requests sent by manufacturers are called “Part Requests”. Once suppliers complete and submit Part Requests in the Supplier HPD tool, manufacturers can import these Parts into their Builder accounts to use them as materials in their products. 

Gathering Supplier’s Part and Material Data: 

  • Determine your product type e.g.: Polymer, Ceramic, Metal, etc. If your product is made from multiple materials, then identify the type of each of the materials in your product and determine the % each of these materials represent in your product.
  • Refer to Residuals and impurities guidelines to consider R&I in your product. If your product is made from multiple materials, consider R&I for each of the materials in your product. R&I consideration is optional, you may or may not consider them in your reporting.
  • Identify if there are materials in your product considered Special Conditions (SC) by HPDC and if so, go to “Emerging Best Practices: Special Conditions” to learn the data requirements for these type of materials. SC materials data is not entered in the part request. This information is reported directly to the manufacturer.

Gathering Supplier’s substance data:

  • Create an inventory of all substances/ingredients present in your final product as delivered to the manufacturer at or above the reporting threshold set by the manufacturer. Identify substances by CAS Registry Number (CASRN) and % weight they represent in your product or in each material (up to 20% weight ranges are allowed). Sources can include:
  • Certificate of analysis and results of product testing;
  • bill of materials;
  • SDS, TDS, etc. for final product and each ingredient (material/substance);
  • shipping receipts, etc.
  • Check to determine if any materials or substances might be considered Special Conditions by HPDC and if so, go to “Emerging Best Practices: Special Conditions” to learn how to handle these materials or substances.
  • Identify materials/substances that are trade secrets and should be reported as proprietary.
  • Information about the type of recycled content used in your product and/or in any substances
  • Information about the role that each chemical substance plays in your product or material, e.g., binder, adhesive, pigment, etc.

Once all data has been gathered, you may then complete your request in the Supplier HPD tool.
